Import my articles from Typepad
December 5th, 2006 | Blogging | SetupOnce I have my basic Wordpress setup, I decided to import my articles from Typepad. I don’t know how many months I have left, but I will soon cancel the account anyways.
The importing process is pretty straight forward. Below are basically the steps:
- Export my articles from Typepad. To do this, I log into Typepad, and go to Weblogs > Leaderware > Manage > Import/Export, and click on Export Post… link
- The export file looks different from my expectation (I was thinking of an RSS feed)… I saved the file on my hard drive
- Import the article via Wordpress > Dashboard > Import > Movable Type and Typepad, and upload the saved file
- All the posts are now available for view
(I probably could have chosen Import via RSS, but my eyeballs skipped over that particular entry! ;P)
Once imported though, the next step is “hellish” - changing the formattings and the links!
Typepad has a strong control over the formatting of the posts, which are somewhat removed through their export process, but when I import the article, I still have to go through and fix the missing
’s and broken
’s.
And I have to relink all the internal links within the articles, because they retain Typepad link structures, which are changed once inside WP.
Finally it is all done - lucky that I did not publish frequently on Typepad, otherwise it would definitely take a while
Below are the converted articles.
